Sorelle Singers
Three sopranos changing the face and fate of women in opera
Sorelle
Katie is the co-founder of Sorelle, est. 2018. Sorelle, or ‘sisters’, is an innovative new all-female operatic group created to revitalise the image of the women of opera – the queens, heroines and lovers – and
restore them to their rightful place in the public imagination.
The trio of Megan Strachan, Katie Blackwell and Olivia Bell joined forces after touring with the Oxford-based company Opera Anywhere on their production of Puccini’s all-female Suor Angelica. Following a sold-out debut concert in Nailworth, Sorelle were invited to perform in the Stroud Shakespeare Festival and in this summer’s Headington Music Festival in Oxford. Further concerts this year in Oxford and London are planned, and Sorelle are also delighted to begin working with their first corporate clients over the summer for bespoke events. performances and events.
Sorelle are proud to be bringing opera straight to the heart of communities that are not regularly treated to the art form and are particularly passionate about bringing opera to first-time concert goers, children and those unable to venture further afield. However, they are pleased to have a wide platform and the opportunity to curate niche and bespokeconcerts, such as their Shakespeare- themed Sounds and Sweet Airs affair, and develop new and little-heard repertoire alongside the big hitters.
